Founding Scientist/Co-Founder at Clera, Remote

Overview

This is a rare opportunity to join as a Founding Scientist/Co-Founder at an early-stage AI-for-biology startup based in Germany. This role sits at the intersection of wet-lab science and computational AI — you will help shape the company’s scientific strategy, build core technology, and bridge hands-on experimental work with AI-driven workflows to accelerate biological discovery.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the scientific vision and research roadmap for early-stage AI + wet-lab products.
• Design and execute key molecular biology, biochemistry, or genomics experiments to validate models and assays.
• Collaborate closely with engineers and ML researchers to translate experimental needs into computational requirements.
• Implement and oversee lab automation and data pipelines to scale experiments and improve reproducibility.
• Prototype computational tools and analyses; contribute code or notebooks integrating experimental data with AI models.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the latest advancements in AI, biology, and related fields.

Requirements

• Experience in engineering and scientific research
• Strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or genomics
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Julia
• Experience with lab automation and data pipelines
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
