Overview
Mercury is seeking an experienced Counsel, Product & Regulatory to join our team, driving innovation in payments and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance. As a key member of our legal team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our product and regulatory strategy, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert counsel on product development, regulatory compliance, and risk management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement compliant payment systems and banking products
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and external counsel
- Stay up-to-date on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments, applying this knowledge to inform product and regulatory strategy
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to product and regulatory matters
- Identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies
Requirements
- J.D. or equivalent law degree, with admission to practice law in the United States or Canada
- 5+ years of experience in product and regulatory counsel, preferably in the fintech or banking industry
- Deep understanding of payment systems, banking products, and AML regulations, including USA PATRIOT Act, Bank Secrecy Act, and OFAC
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into actionable advice
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with experience working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
