Role: Software Engineer
As a Software Engineer at PhonePe, you will:
- Build robust and scalable web applications with a focus on platform reusability.
- Design intuitive abstractions and contracts with a clear separation of concerns.
- Solve high-level business and technical problems using creative solutions.
- Work on functional modeling, architecture design, and incremental improvements.
- Optimize performance for large-scale distributed systems.
- Mentor team members and foster collaboration to ensure project predictability.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to define features and lead medium-sized projects.
- Analyze project impact and iterate proactively for improvements.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Skills:
- Expertise in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C, C++) with experience writing maintainable, scalable, and unit-tested code.
- Strong knowledge of multi-threading, concurrency, and object-oriented design.
- Familiarity with design patterns and intuitive module/class-level interfaces.
- Proficiency in Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Experience with databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL systems (e.g., HBase, Elasticsearch).
- Strong problem-solving skills with a drive to tackle complex real-world challenges.
- Previous experience in startup environments with high ownership and accountability.
- BTech, MTech, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields with 3–5 years of experience building scalable, data-intensive applications.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Ability to architect and design multiple subsystems.
- Breaking down larger, ambiguous problems into smaller, actionable tasks.
- Familiarity with industry coding standards and creating technical documentation.
