Azure Portal Overview
The Azure Portal is a single web-based interface where users can manage and monitor a variety of cloud applications, from simple web apps to complex enterprise-level cloud infrastructures.
Getting Started with the Azure Portal
- Creating an Azure Account
- Visit Azure Free Trial and click Start free.
- Log in with a Microsoft Account or create one if needed.
- Fill in your details, including a credit card for verification. Azure offers free services and credit based on region for 30 days.
- Azure Portal Interface
- The Azure Portal offers access to popular tools and services on the homepage. You can start managing resources right away with features like resource creation and navigation drawers to locate all available services.
Creating a Resource in Azure
- You can create resources directly from the homepage or browse the Navigation Drawer.
- To find a resource not on the homepage, go to “All Services” and use the search function.
- Third-party services are also available, utilizing Azure’s infrastructure.
Working with Resource Groups
Resource Group: A container for Azure resources which can include VMs, databases, and networking resources that share a common lifecycle.
How to Create a Resource Group
From the Navigation Drawer open Resource Groups and click on Create.
Choose your Subscription, give the name for your Resource Group, and select a Region.
You can assign Tags if you like, then review and create the resource group.
Resource Group Menu Overview:
Overview: It provides group resources, subscription information, tags, and deployment details.
Activity Log: Administrative activities performed on the resources are visible.
Access Control (IAM): It facilitates role-based access assignments for the resources in a group.
Tags: Tags can be used to group or categorize the resources logically.
Events: Subscribe to events like VM start/stop and cause notifications.
Deployment: Displays the deployments and changes made to the resources.
Policies: Provide and view policies for managing the resources.
Cost Management: Review and monitor the expenses of the resources.
Monitoring: Set alerts, view metrics, and update diagnostic settings.
Subscription Management
- View Subscriptions: In the search bar, type “Subscription” to view all active subscriptions.
- Azure’s Free Trial provides a detailed overview of subscription costs, billing, and settings.
- Manage settings like payment methods, download usage details, and set alerts for cost management.
